 Conclusions

Bilingual and bicultural people have the ability to immerse themselves in different cultures and adopt their values, mentalities and behaviors into their personal and cultural identity. This process is not limited to initial learning, but is continuous and enriched throughout life through interactions with cultures and languages, regardless of when these experiences occur. It is a dynamic process that is constantly renewed.

Traveling bicultural and bilingual identities can present challenges, ultimately this offers opportunities for personal growth, self-discovery, and meaningful connections with others. Biculturalism and bilingualism contribute to diversity and social cohesion by promoting tolerance, empathy and effective communication across cultural and linguistic boundaries.

Students in bilingual programs have the unique opportunity to not only improve their communication skills, but also to explore and potentially adopt second cultures due to the close relationship between culture and language. As future language teachers, we believe that teachers play a crucial role in this dynamic, as they can positively or negatively influence how these topics are addressed in the classroom and the discourses that are promoted during the learning process.
