Differences between Bilingual and bicultural
DIFFERENCES
☝
- While bilingual individuals can switch between languages, bicultural individuals navigate between cultural norms, values, and customs.
- In a Bicultural model, not only is the English language class taught, but most of the classes are all in English.
- Bilingualism focuses on the teaching of a language other than the mother tongue, but leaves aside the cultural and social aspects that go hand in hand with the use of a language.
- It is called a bilingual model because, in addition to knowing their native language in depth, they manage to learn a second language that allows them to open their horizons for the future, while in a bicultural model they will not only learn a language different from the one they are familiar with. But they will know the cultural context of it. In this way we can form tolerance in them to accept that throughout the world there is a great diversity of cultures that influence the future of children.
